Lake Garda

Italy

Lake Garda offers Alpine kitesurfing at its most scenic, with steep mountains plunging into clear freshwater at Italy's largest lake. The wind runs on a daily thermal rhythm: the northerly Peler blows in the early morning, then the southerly Ora fills in through the afternoon, both remarkably reliable from spring to early autumn. The flat to lightly rippled freshwater and stunning backdrop make it special, though gusty mountain conditions and busy water suit intermediate riders best. Best months are April to September, when both thermals are most dependable and the valley is at its finest.
