USA
Hood River sits in the Columbia River Gorge, the freshwater kitesurfing capital of the American Northwest. Thermal westerlies funnel through the canyon and blow against the river's current, building a unique standing swell on freshwater rather than sea. The result is punchy, scenic and often gusty riding, framed by forested cliffs, best suited to intermediate and stronger riders. The town is a true wind-sports community, with a rich history, plenty of shops and a summer season running June to September. For riders wanting something different from tropical lagoons, the Gorge delivers real character and challenge.
