Cabarete

Dominican Republic

Cabarete on the north coast of the Dominican Republic is where much of modern kitesurfing culture took root. Kite Beach earns its name daily: mornings are calm and glassy, then a thermal trade wind fills in through the afternoon as the land heats up, almost like clockwork in the June to August peak. An offshore reef means flat water on the inside and waves out the back, so riders of every level find their zone. The town itself is lively and welcoming, with a long-standing watersports scene, beach bars and an easy Caribbean rhythm both on and off the water.
